Science in the spotlight!
Scientific research has shown that compulsion techniques (aka punishment) are ineffective. Learning should be based on trust, not fear!
For example, a recent study (Herron et al., 2009) concluded that dog owners who used aversive methods, such as yelling, "alpha rolls", forced downs and leash corrections, such as those popularized by television shows, were more likely to trigger aggressive responses from the dogs and created "substantial risk for owners."
